Custom sort for folders and files

It seems like it is not possible to set custom sort options (name vs. upload date) for the different levels of folders and files. I.e., if you sort one folder by name, then all folders, subfolders and files will be sorted by name.

Example: I would like to sort a top folder containing subfolders by name of the subfolders (with the system remembering this choice). In the subfolders just containing files / PDFs, I would like to sort by, e.g., date uploaded (again with the system remembering this choice until changed).
